For people who cannot arrange to come on Sunday, please call and we will try to arrange a different meeting for you to recieve basic instruction.

When Roshi is in Residence

Rinzai-ji Zen Center is considered Roshi's main temple. Throughout the year he is periodically in residence at the center and helps conduct our daily affairs in whatever way he feels is appropriate.  For the visiting student, this means that the schedule may differ dramatically from what we have listed here.  If you have any questions, please give us a call.

Due to Roshi's age and health considerations, he is not available for visits.  If you wish to meet Roshi formally for sanzen (private interviews), this is possible only when you participate in a full dai-sesshin or have studied previously with the Roshi.

Zazenkai

A Zazenkai at Rinzai-ji is a monthly, one-day retreat from 9am to 4 pm.  It includes a formal, silent lunch and a talk by an Osho, or senior disciple of Joshu Roshi.  A Zazenkai is a special time for intensive meditation practice in a formal setting.  Beginners are welcome but should arrange for instructions.  Please call to RSVP.

Appropriate Dress for Zazen at Rinzai-ji

Please wear loose-fitting dark clothing. There is a minimal degree of etiquette observed in the zendo in keeping with our Rinzai tradition.
