Click to enlargeThe courtyard behind the Zendo is spacious. A birdbath with a sitting Buddha statue in the center draws immediate attention.

The walking meditation, kinhin, is done in the courtyard. Occasionally the courtyard is used to host a party, after a ceremony or other formal events.

Bamboo grows around the walls of the Zen Center and cleaning the sidewalk, picking up trash is one of the daily chores during samu or nitten-soji.

The tea room is used for the meals, only during Dai-sesshin meals are taken in the Zendo, sitting in meditation posture.

Gatherings in the tea room to chat after or before the meditation are a regular happening at Rinzai0ji.

Many formal group pictures were taken on the steps of the deck that leads into the Zendo.
