Rinzai-ji Zen Center is an urban meditation center that offers daily Zen practice and the opportunity for residential Zen practice and residents participating in the daily activities. Rinzai-ji is founded by Kyōzan Jōshu Sasaki Roshi in 1968. It is also an international branch of Myoshin-ji Temple, Kyoto in Japan. The traditional Buddhist ceremonies, as well as Sesshin (intensive retreats), are conducted at Rinzai-ji throughout the year. The mission of Rinzai-ji is to serve the local and regional community as a place for Zen practice & studies, a place for reflection and insight.
The spacious Zendo invites everyone from students, workers, householders to ordained zen practitioners to participate in the formal Zan practice including chanting service, silent work and sitting & walking Zazen (meditation) practice together.
There are many ways in which one can engage at Rinzai-ji and everyone is welcome to join our community starting with a Newcomers Class as a gateway.
