Our beloved teacher Jōshu Sasaki Rōshi passed away at 4:25 p.m on July 27th, 2014 at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. A viewing called, Missō was taken place at Kobuta Mortuary followed by cremation services at the Evergreen Cemetery in Los Angeles on Friday, August 8th, 2014. Dr Harmon, Roshi’s first American supporter, passed away a few months earlier. On July 21 a memorial was held at Rinzai-ji at which his son, Martin, was able to be present along with friend Elisa. Samu (Silent Work Practice) is held daily Wednesday through Friday. Work practice usually involves temple cleaning and gardening. Please come to the work bell in your work clothes. Shika or Shoji will give instruction.
Zazenkai, one-day silent retreat starts at 9:30 am with Sarei, serving of tea. Zazen begins at 10 am to 4 pm. It includes a semi-formal lunch and a Dharma talk or recorded Teisho. Beginners are welcome! Please contact and arrange for a practice orientation.
