We’re very pleased to announce that on Saturday November 12th, there will be a one day Zazenkai. We are deeply honored to have Ursula Jarand Rōshi from Daishū-in West as a special guest at the Zazenkai. Daishū-in West is one of three Myōshin-ji international branch temples in the US. The Zazenkai will take place from 10am-4pm PDT and will include zazen, a formal jihatsu meal for lunch, and a dharma talk from Ursula. Please note that this is an in-person only event. There will be no online part to this event. All attendees must be vaccinated or show proof of negative COVID test. Attendance is limited and priority will be given to full time participants.
Ursula Jarand was born in 1952 in southern Germany. At age twenty-seven, a deep interest in Zen Buddhism led her to Daishū-in in Kyoto, Japan, where she became a diciple of Sōko Morinaga Rōshi. She practiced under his guidance in Japan for the next fifteen years, eventually receiving Dharma transmission from him. In 1994, she came to Northern California with Shaku Daijō to establish a branch temple of Daishū-in, Daishū-in West, where she continues to teach a core group of practioners today.
